Important Information

Business & Residential Service

In general, the location and the character of use of a telephone service govern its classification as to business or residential. Business Rates apply to any telephone service provided for subscriber use, in any premise which is regularly used in whole or in part for any business, trade or professional purpose; or for both business and residential purposes; and to such service, wherever located, if provided with a business type of listing or designation or it is evident from any advertising that the telephone service will be used for any business, trade or professional purpose. Residential Rates apply where the use is of a social and domestic nature.

Inside Wire Maintenance Service

This service provides the customer with the satisfaction and comfort of knowing that if a problem occurs with their telephone service, Garden Valley will identify the problem free of charge even if the problem is caused by sub-owned equipment. Garden Valley will repair or replace any damaged telephone wiring or jacks within the residence or business free of charge. If the trouble is a problem with the subscriber’s sub-owned telephone, fax machine, computer, or any other equipment connected to the phone service, Garden Valley will inform the customer and discuss options available for repair or replacement of equipment through Garden Valley. There is a separate charge for each telephone line within the premise. Without this service, the subscriber is responsible for all charges associated with the maintenance of the wire, jacks and sub-owned equipment should it cause service problems with their telephone service. This service does not include free repair or replacement of sub-owned equipment.

Suspended Service

If you leave your residence or business for at least three months and intend to return and request telephone service again, please study the following information. We have an obligation to supply telephone service, upon request and proper payment, with respect to availability and construction requirements. When a telephone number is disconnected, that number may be made available to the next party requesting service. To avoid the reassignment of your telephone number and payment of reconnect charges, we suggest that you take advantage of the suspended service (vacation) rate. This rate is charged during the time your service is disconnected and is billed at one-half of the regular local service rate. While on suspended service, a recording is placed on your line informing callers of the temporary disconnect. Your name and number are continued in any new directory and you do not pay a reconnect charge when you return.

Non-Listed and Non-Published Service

You may request that the listing of your telephone number be excluded from the Garden Valley directory, but still made available to callers through Directory Assistance, or by calling the Garden Valley office. This is called Non-Listed Service and may be obtained for a monthly fee. If you do not want your number released through Directory Assistance or published in the Garden Valley directory, you may request Non-Published Service. There is a monthly fee for this service. Please note that Garden Valley must provide subscriber listings to authorized persons and organizations responsible for 911 emergency telephone systems. Non-listed and non-published service numbers will show up on Caller ID units unless you have line blocking or use per call blocking.

Mandatory 10-Digit Dialing

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has adopted 988 as a new three-digit number to be used nationwide to reach the National Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Crisis Lifeline, starting July 16, 2022. In order for 988 to work in your (218) area code, 10-digit local dialing must first be implemented.

Beginning October 24, 2021, you must dial 10-digits (area code + telephone number) for all local calls. On and after this date, local calls dialed with only 7-digits may not be completed, and a recording will inform you that your call cannot be completed as dialed. You must hang up and dial again using the area code and the 7-digit number. The price of a call, coverage area, or other rates and services, including Expanded Local Calling will not change due to the dialing change.
